Project Rhino is surprisingly lightweight
With its headquarters in Austria, Krug Expedition has been creating heavy-duty safari and expedition vehicles since 2011.
Their latest offering is Project Rhino, a rock-solid off-roader built on the back of a Mercedes Benz Atego chassis.
The whole thing weighs a surprisingly lightweight 15,212 pounds, and I say lightweight compared to other motorhomes, which start at 17,637 pounds and work their way up.
Despite its nimble size, you're still going to need a European C1 truck license in order to drive it on the roads.
Project Rhino's motorhome module is constructed out of 60-mm reinforced sandwich panels made of fiberglass and aluminum, providing complete insulation from the elements.

Each Rhino comes with 365/80 R 20 offroad tires, quick access steps, and a rear cargo box built into the chassis.
You'll also find a generous 32 square-foot garage for gear and luggage storage. Mounted up top is a driver's cab roof rack with an LED light bar, and Labcraft Scenelights provide up to 1700 lumens of additional lighting on the side.
Also, on the roof, you'll find 915 watts of solar panels that connect to the 5000V inverter and an upgraded 300-Ah 24-V lithium-ion battery bank.
As an additional upgrade, owners of Project Rhino can add a second roof rack, a rear-view camera, and a semi-automatic tire inflation system.
Once inside, it's an entirely different space
Access to the inside comes either via the side door or pass-through to the driver's cab. It's an option, but at 35 inches by 23 inches, it can be a tight squeeze.
Once inside, it's an entirely different space. Gone are the rugged lines and bland paint jobs. Instead, the interior is a sleek, modern modular apartment with all the amenities you could want in a home away from home.
A generous floor plan features a large rear bed, sliding table and dining area, full-featured kitchen with fridge/freezer combo, and induction cooktop.
Hidden neatly behind the dinette's backrest is a vertical lift TV that can be pulled out or tucked away when not needed.
Towards the front of the module, the wet bathroom includes HPL flooring, a waterless composting toilet, a shower, and underfloor water collection.
Project Rhino has tanks for both fresh and gray water, 75 and 37 gallons, respectively. A Webasto Dual Top Evo 8 diesel heating system provides both cabin heat and hot water to the 3-gallon boiler.
There's no official price listed for Project Rhino; Krug asks interested buyers to contact them directly. Despite this, a listing for a recently completed model on a third-party website listed one as $330,475
